Join us on Monday, March 9th for our quarterly program to be held at the Surry Ruritan Club at 7:00 pm. Our speaker Rev. Dr. James Harrison will present findings on his research project entitled, Black Land Ownership Along Gray’s Creek 1860-1960. It started as grief therapy, turned into 45 years of genealogical research, and finally the subject of inquiry winning an African American Fellowship with the Voices Remembered Initiative, funded by the Mellon Foundation and offered by Preservation Virginia. Rev. Harrison is a Surry native and former Surry Historical Society President. He also serves as Pastor of Main Street Baptist Church in Smithfield, VA and as the Executive Minister for American Baptist Churches of the South (ABCOTS).
