Duston Sear will share a reading from her debut novel - Bird GIrl.

Duston is the granddaughter of the late Judge Charlie Gray Rowell and Ethel May Roach Rowell. She has relatives who still live here in the Surry/Smithfield area. As a child, Duston was deposited at her grandparents’ house across from the Surry Baptist Church every summer! Because of those memories, she has given her new book’s protagonist a Tidewater childhood. She will also share with us a reading from a story published in the Summer of 2022 in Susurrus Magazine (Wake Forest University) entitled “A Story About the James,” which features a tale about our own James River! Duston will stay around for a while to talk and visit with those who join us!
