The Surry County, VA Historical Society invites our members and the public to attend our upcoming Open House and Program on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.! We are excited to offer tours of The Glebe of Southwark Parish, located at 3700 Colonial Trail West (Route 10W), in Surry County. Our hosts, Steve and Janice Perkins, have generously offered their home, which is celebrating its 300th anniversary, for our program. The afternoon will feature tours of the house approximately every 45 minutes, beginning at 1:15, and following at 2:00, 2:45, 3:15, 4:00, and a final tour as needed. Visitors will be greeted by Tom Mayes, an historical interpreter representing Francis Clements, a previous owner of the house in late the 1600’s/ early 1700’s. Mays will give a brief history of that period, and then the group will be given a tour of the house, including upstairs and the basement for those who can navigate the steps. Outside of the house, weather permitting, guests will enjoy pleasant views of the farm and house while tasting delicious, light refreshments. We are seeking musical guests to provide Christmas music or songs to our guests within the house or outside. There is no charge for our Open House although donations to The Surry Historical Society, a non-profit organization, are always welcomed! Email surryhistoricalsociety@gmail.com for more information or to volunteer or suggest a group to present music!
Note: The Glebe is 3.5 miles from the intersection of Routes 31 & 10 as you leave the town of Surry and 4.2 miles from the Spring Grove intersection of Routes 10 and 40. Watch for Entrance signs next to the Surry VDOT Headquarters (shared entrance).
