Books of Interest - December 2020

Our December book of the month is Old Surry, by A.W. Bohannan in 1927, and reprinted by Willis Bohannan in 1957. In 2002, Gordon W. Bohannan (Bo), took on the task of updating and reprinting the book for the 350th birthday of Surry County. As both Bohannans noted in the Forward to their copies, many of the sites in the original book are no longer standing, and as the 20th century ended, our road names were modernized for communications regulations.

As Mr. A.W. Bohannan stated in his Preface, this book was the first attempt as far as he knew, “to collect and have published together data bearing on the history of the old place in Surry County.” It is not a long book, just less than 100 pages, but if you want to learn more about Surry County’s history, or just review it again, this is a good place to start!  

You may pick it up at our building on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (Closed 12/22 and 23), or we can mail it to you!
